Ok, for class I had to listen to an guided relaxation trip. So, from this experience, as with all my previous experiences, with guided imagery and visualization I got to say, yes, it is relaxing but I am not sure if it really the monotone voices that use for these things or if it simply the fact that I lay down and just relax.
I do try to meditate on a regular basis and manage to actually meditate about 3 times a week on average. I live in this busy World with the rest of you and won't kid myself that it is easy keeping up with all that goes on daily. I work 2 jobs (one full-time, one part-time) and then help out a friend about once a week for the extra benefits. I go to school and am probably in a book or on the Internet for about 30-40 hours a week just for school. I am also raising a 14 year old and and am looking at getting my 12 year old in about a month. I am having to look for a new place because I cannot imagine the three of us in the tiny place I got now. I am so busy that just lying down and listening to a guy guide me into a relaxed state feels great. I always feel a little refreshed after stopping to meditate or be guided through relaxation. I think that simply stopping to focus on breathing is an amazing exercise in feeling okay with all the hectic World blowing around us.
So, remember, just breath in through the nose and down to the stomach... at least a few times a week... and this could make life's turmoil resemble the small storms that pass and leave blue skies.
Great advice about breathing deeply to relieve stress. I have been doing that a lot lately. I recently got promoted at my job and didn't reload the amount of stress it would cause. Plus my husband is currently unemployed so I am support my family right now. Between school and working I just feel drained. This exercise made me sleepy listening to the man talk so I guess it relaxed me. I could feel that just by focusing on what the man said that things were happening inside my body. I used to think this exercise were a waste of time but this one really relaxed me, either that or I was just sleepy. Lol
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about the monotone voices...I do not want or need them. But I guess they are helpful to some people, especially those who are new to the process. I cannot believe all the things you have on your plate! It is very good that you already meditate and have found the ways which work for you in order to find a peaceful place in your world. Good luck, and congrats on the prospect of having your other child move in with you!

WOW, I don't know how you stay awake! That is a lot for someone to have on their plate. As I was reading I did not get the impression that you were not complaining so this pace obviously suits you, and I can imagine the woosh of air as you exhale when you do get to slow down. Enjoy life with your children, you only have 1 and make it the best you can.
